A member of the mint family, Leonurus cardiaca is an herbaceous perennial native to central Asia and southeast Europe. Now naturalized around the world, motherwort is loved for its calming properties. Motherwort is literally mother’s herb, a name the plant acquired because of its historical use by anxious mothers. Motherwort can be used in tincturing and was traditionally used as a tea. It is frequently combined with Hawthorn Leaf.
